Hi. Are you baffled?

I think most of us are on some level. This blog is devoted to the complicated things–mostly about science and medicine–that seem to confuse us. Mostly baffled catalogs stories that abuse the “scientists baffled by X” format as a shorthand for explaining a bit more about the complicated thing in question.

Of course, sometimes scientists are baffled, legitimately so, by some new discovery or some bizarre sequence of events. The world can be a baffling place.

But more often, I think we are the baffled ones. Science education, in general, is a bit lacking, and people aren’t often equipped to discuss the complicated roles of science, medicine and technology that increasingly pervade our lives.

Hopefully, if I keep this blog up, we can talk a bit more about those things too.
